Social Media

Since 2017, I’ve leveraged the power of social media to help tell Tampa’s story, define its identity, keep residents informed and build a sense community.

I believe social media is one of the most powerful tools government communicators can use to inform and engage residents in the Digital Age.

Instagram Reels & TikTok

Over the past few years, the social media landscape has gravitated towards short-form vertical video content. This content is highly engaging, creative and can be a powerful tool for visual storytelling.

As a digital pioneer, I was able to help the City of Tampa to become one of the first cities in the nation to launch a TikTok and to embrace Instagram reels.

Strategic Campaigns

Facebook live can increase public access to fun, educational or important moments in local history. At the City of Tampa, I filmed and hosted several Facebook live broadcasts.

#HappyAtHomeTPA

It all begins with an idea. Maybe you want to launch a business. Maybe you want to turn a hobby into something more. Or maybe you have a creative project to share with the world. Whatever it is, the way you tell your story online can make all the difference.

Super Bowl LV

In 2021, Tampa made sports history when the Tampa Bay Buccaneers became the first NFL team to host and win the Super Bowl at their home stadium. Hosting this major sporting event amid the COVID-19 crisis presented unique challenges and opportunities to lean in on digital strategy. The City of Tampa developed a successful, engaging and fun #SLBV campaign that played off of the NFL’s established branding while highlighting our slice of paradise.

Hurricane Ian

On September 28, 2022, Hurricane Ian made landfall in southwest Florida as a Category 4 hurricane--the deadliest hurricane in Florida since 1935. National Hurricane Center and NOAA forecasts projected that the City of Tampa was in the direct path of the storm and that the impact would be catastrophic. The City of Tampa developed a robust communications plan that kept residents informed with potentially lifesaving information, highlighted City readiness, and showcased Mayor Castor’s leadership.

The “AlertTampa” emergency communications campaign included proactive messaging before the storm, branded graphics throughout the emergency, daily Facebook Live press conference coverage, reels updated with the City’s Emergency Coordinator, behind-the-scenes Instagram stories from the EOC (Emergency Operations Center) and the storm damage assessment, continued messaging after the storm, and even leveraging viral moments to showcase the Mayor’s leadership.

Facebook Live

Facebook live can increase public access to fun, educational or important moments in local history. At the City of Tampa, I gained valuable experience behind the lens in front of it-broadcasting everything from press conferences to fireworks or interviewing key officials.
